A handful of testimonials from some Ruffmutz students, with grateful thanks to owners who have offered testimonials.
Jemma gave me the confidence from the outset, she’s such a calm person and Sparkles absolutely loved her! Re-enforcing good behaviour on a daily basis and continuing with everything I’ve learnt has resulted in Sparkles being the most obedient & loving companion ever. I love the fact Jemma does home visits, being a first time dog owner the reassurance of knowing Sparkles environment was ok was great. I know she’s had the best start possible! Thanks Jemma
SPARKLES (and CAROLINE)
Jemma is an absolute superstar! I contacted her to get some help with our adolescent sprocker spaniel. Despite all the work we did with him before we met Jemma, he started showing a terrible reactivity towards other dogs on our walks. I felt absolutely hopeless and I didn’t understand what I’ve done wrong. After our first session I got my motivation back and a very complex training plan that she shared with us was exactly what we needed. Everything what she recommended had a massive impact on his behavior not only on our walks, but also at home and it helped with much more than what we actually asked for! there is still some work to be done, but the successes that we have already achieved made us sooo happy and we can see that our pup is much happier! we’ve just had a follow up session which was also brilliant! Jemma answered my whole massive list of questions , she is so patient, knowledgeable and you can see that she loves dogs and she is really good at her job! always using 100% positive methods and she is very specific with her advise. she also showed us some great new techniques how to do further work with our doggy that he enjoyed so much! I’m so glad we found Jemma and I recommend her to everyone who is struggling with their doggies! thank you Jemma!

Jemma is fantastic! My dog is going through adolescence and we have been struggling with some behaviours (not coming back, picking things up and not dropping them and wanting to be chased, pinching food from every surface imaginable, play biting me and my family). I was really nervous after hearing from others’ experiences with dog trainers that they felt judged and not supported. There was absolutely none of this in our interactions. Jemma immediately put me at ease. She was so knowledgeable and kind, and made everything really clear. It was actually really fun! Now armed with some sensible targetted strategies, based on jemmas excellent understanding of dog behaviour, to help my dog be the best pooch she can be. Highly recommended!

Thank you so much jemma for all your help and support with teddy, to see the progress he’s made in a short space of time is amazing!
TEDDY
We are really grateful for all the advice, still a long way to go but with the advice you have given we are sure to continue making progress!
And a big thanks from teddy he is super happy with himself now he is able enjoy his walks much more!
Just had our first session with Jemma. With current restriction we had to move the session to be on Zoom rather than face to face, but this didn’t restrict us in any way. Jemma had a really professional set up, with multiple cameras, toys for demos & even brought in her dog to show us some techniques. Our dog is very anxious and shy due to her background and we actually got just as much out of it, if not more, by having the session remotely. We had SO many questions and stories to tell Jemma, and she was able to help us with useful hints and tips to tackle all the issues we discussed. Really looking forward to our next Zoom session!
MEG
Jemma responded to my enquiry very promptly and was really helpful, showing a great knowledge and understanding for helping dogs to be the best they can be, thank you!
CARLTON (and HELEN)
Jemma’s support has been fantastic, we were at our wits end as to how to get two dogs to at least try and get a long with each other. Jemma’s support and guidance has allowed us to make great stride towards this goal, although we are not quite there yet we are a lot close than we were, and life is now better. I strongly recommend Jemma and the puppy school.
CHARLIE and POPPY
“Our collie unfortunately suffered from a few injuries and illnesses during his first year of life, and we seemed to be permanently taking him to the vet to treat the wounds or to receive injections or eye drops for various ailments. From being a happy-go-lucky “I Love Everyone!” dog, he became quite nervous and started to get very upset whenever we took him to the vet. I had medicines and creams at home to administer, and some special wash for his wounds as he had received a number of cuts on his paws and legs from (we suspect) glass bottles that people had dropped that had smashed. Santi started to growl and lightly snap a warning if I wanted to wash any wounds out, and he hated going to the vet as he knew it was going to hurt to be examined or to receive treatment. He was also quite manic (typical collie!) and struggled to calm at home.
We were at our vet one day, and Jemma mentioned that she worked with dogs like Santi in order to enable them to relax and respond in a more positive way to the kind of issues that Santi had been (understandably) upset by. I was intrigued, and booked in with Jemma for our first ‘chill-out’ session with Santi. I knew little about dog training and although had read up a bit, there was so much conflicting information out there that I wasn’t really sure what to do or where to start. When we turned up at the first one-to-one session, Santi was again upset and was recovering from another quite deep paw wound that he’d had to have bandaged, and was also wearing a large plastic collar to prevent him nibbling at the sutures in the wound. He despised the collar and was forever banging it again things accidentally – he was in a sorry state, poor thing. Jemma was calm and confident with him, relaxed and friendly, and above all patient. Over a series of around 5 or 6 sessions, the exercises and work she did with Santi have enabled him to be able to self-settle at home, to be much calmer and collected when he has a painful area or wound, and he will now allow me to gently examine him if he has had an injury: before he would have shied away and snapped or growled. He is calmer when we have to go to the vet now, and really enjoys seeing Jemma whenever we go and she is working at the vet – evidently he has responded really well to her behavioural training and calming techniques.
I have also learnt a lot from her about how to train a dog, positive reward based reinforcement, and supporting your pet to become a well behaved member of the family. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Jemma to work with you and your dog if it has behavioural / training issues that you would like to help / correct, as she has been an absolute star where Santi is concerned. She is knowledgeable, and has a genuine love and concern for all animals. The techniques she uses are easy to continue at home, and it feels good to do as the reward based system seemed to help Santi in being quick to respond, and it is a pleasure to see him enjoy the training. Jemma followed up sessions with comprehensive and clear instructions via email, and was also able to advise on other questions I had in relation to dog behaviour and training. We will definitely continue to see Jemma as she has had such a positive impact on how Santi responds, both at the vet for treatment and at home, where he is capable now of self-settling. A big thank you to Jemma!”
